Wheel hubs come off easily
« on: March 27, 2014, 02:13:38 AM »
Hey guys,

I've had the balanduino for less than a week, and so far the wheel hubs for both my wheels have come off while operating the balanduino 3 times for both wheels. I've tightened the wheel hub screws as tight as i can, any further i'll either strip the screws or the hex key itself. Admittedly they come off after maybe a few light bumps or driving on uneven surface like carpet, but still they come off way too easily. Is this normal? any ideas how to fix it? I thought about roughing the flat edge on the motor shaft a little bit so it would grip more.

Thanks!

Hmm it sounds strange that they already start to come off.
Mine did actually start to come of, but I have also developed on it for a very long time!

I simply used some Loctite on the hub screws and they haven't come off since then :)

Had the same problem and Loctite on the grub screws solved it for me too.

I've also used Loctite on the nuts on the 4 threaded bars - since I had the capped nuts drop off a few times when driving the Balanduino around.

After playing my Balanduino for a full day one of the wheel hub started to get loose, will try the Loctite.

Okay great Jimmy.
We are working on having some Loctite in the kit in the future, so you won't have to buy it yourself.

@Lauszus, will Balanduino work on different size or diameter of wheels? I currently do not have a different size of wheels to try but would like to know.

Thanks,

Jimmy

Not with the stock settings. You will properly have to tune the PID and encoder values.
